Purchase of Media There are several different means of procuring media. Media can be purchased commercially prepared or you can prepare media from dehydrated media or you can use ready-to-pour media.

Commercially prepared media can be purchased as agar slants, agar plates, or broth. The shelf life is not real long depending upon your supplier and it must be stored in the refrigerator.

Dehydrated media is probably the most economical way to purchase media. Sterilization is required usually by autoclaving.

Ready-to-pour media requires heating to liquify and then poured into a sterile Petri dish or tube.
