Causes

 

Transmission

  • Salmonella is usually transmitted by eating contaminated food, usually from animal feces.
  • Contaminated foods are generally beef, poultry, milk or eggs.
  • Food becomes contaminated by:
    • eating undercooked meat
    • food handlers fail to wash their hands with soap after using the bathroom
    • handling animals, especially reptiles, and not washing their hands
