DNA Replication If it were so simple in 1953 , why are we still trying to understand it? |
Early in vitro Studies - Art Kornberg Scientific Model is to find and isolate the enzyme activity of interest. |
In vitro replication of DNA - Arthur Kornberg dNTP + Primer + Template --> DNA + nPP'sSummary |
In 1959, Arthur Kornberg was awarded
the Nobel
Prize for enzymatic synthesis (replication)
of DNA along with co-recipient Severo Ochoa for RNA synthesis. Note this was three years before Watson, Crick, and Wilkins received the prize for the structure of DNA in 1962. |
After everyone believes that Kornberg has isolated the DNA replication enzyme, John Cairns isolates a strain of E. coli that completely lacks Kornbergs' enzyme. What does this do to your scientific theories? |
