Mandel's Five Points
- There are hereditary determinants of a particulate nature
i.e. no blending as was generally considered.
- There must be at least two determinants in each plant.
- The members of the pair of factors segregate equally into
the gametes [eggs and sperm]. Note this is a randomizing step. It is also
known as Mendel's First Law
- At a minimum each gamete contains only one member of each
gene pair.
- Gametes recombine at random. Note this is a second randomizing
step
