Mandel's Five Points

  1. There are hereditary determinants of a particulate nature i.e. no blending as was generally considered.
  2. There must be at least two determinants in each plant.
  3. The members of the pair of factors segregate equally into the gametes [eggs and sperm]. Note this is a randomizing step. It is also known as Mendel's First Law
  4. At a minimum each gamete contains only one member of each gene pair.
  5. Gametes recombine at random. Note this is a second randomizing step
