Genetic Analysis in Humans

Analysis of Human Pedigrees is very important in Genetic Analysis. Usually a propositus is identified and his/her family analyzed. (Old style)

The first step is to determine whether a trait is dominant or recessive .  The next step is to determine the genetics of each individual in the pedigree.

Lets try again with this one. Dominant traits generally do not skip generations such as Huntington's disease.

Huntington's Disease is hard to regulate because the people carrying the allele generally do not express the disease until after childbearing age.

The Achondroplasia Phenotype is inherited as a dominant.

Polydactyly is a rare dominant phenotype.
There was ..in Gath, ... a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
2 Samuel 21:20.

Brachydactyly - short digits of the hand.

Phenotype = the resulting form
