Look at the Trunk and Crown Form

Are You Looking at a Tree, a Shrub, or some Intermediate Form?

Look at the Trunk Bark

Often that's all you have at ground level.

Look at the Leaves 

If you're in a Forest, Binoculars can Help Your Observations.

Look at the Twigs

These are Especially Useful When There is No Foliage

Do You See Fruits? 

If They're Not on the Tree - Look Around on the Ground!

Do You See Flowers?

These are Typically Present for Only a Few Weeks in Spring
