Pre-Lab questions for Lab 0



Two plots appear in the web handout for lab.  Concerning the plot appearing on the left side of the page:

1) Suppose that in an experiment you produced a similar plot, except that your calculated error bars were much smaller than those shown on the plot in the handout.  Comment on the situation where the best-fit line crossed NONE of the calculated error bars.

Concerning the right-most plot:

2) If the y-intercept represented a quantity of interest in the experiment (i.e., one of the physical quantities that the experiment was designed to measure), comment on the how the experiment should be designed from the point of view of the range of "x"-values over which the individual data points are taken.

3) Indicate on the journal article supplied ("Young's Double-Slit Experiment with Atoms") the 5 parts of the "Full Report" format contained in the PHY 293 course syllabus.  Turn the annotated journal article in with your written answers to questions 1 & 2 above.
