Dragonfly
Words by Scott Hudson, 1999
(Tune:
Jingle Bells)
Refrain
Dragonfly, dragonfly, flitting through the marsh,
Its four wings will move it through an environment that's harsh.
Dragonfly, dragonfly, flitting through the marsh,
Survived 300 million years an environment that's harsh.
Verse
1
Dragonflies can mate, while flying through the air,
Lay their eggs on stems, or in the water there.
A nymph soon hatches out; spends years while in that state; It will eat
some insects while enduring its long wait! (to refrain)
Verse
2
After shedding skin, about twelve times or so,
The dragonfly grows wings; starts moving to and fro.
Although it soon will die, it first must lay its eggs,
And feed on insects that it captures in its tiny legs. (to refrain)
