This chapter or unit outline is a general description of what may take place during a chapter. In the case of units where 2 or 3 chapters have been combined the lecture days will be expanded.
Anytime we start a new chapter or unit it is considered Day 1. Students are expected to have read the first section of the chapter before Day 1and completely have read the chapter by Day 3. ( Reading over the chapter and notes a couple times before a test will definitely improve their grade).
Day 1-- Introduction to concepts or ideas in chapter. (This may consist of group discussions of previous knowledge, video or film clips, inquiry learning methods.) Lecture over first two sections of chapter. Assign vocabulary
Day 2 -- Finish lecturing over chapter. Collect vocabulary part 1
Day 3 to Day 6 are flexible schedule days: We may watch a video, work in lab groups, finish lectures, do writing assignments, work on projects, or work on assignments. I will collect vocabulary part 2 on Day 3 and hand-out the Directed Reading worksheet packet. On Day 5 or 6 I will assign the parts of the chapter review in the book to be done.
Day 7: Check Directed Reading packets in class. Concept Maps are due. Clarify questions and review.
Day 8: Check Chapter Review in class. Article Reviews are due. Answer questions and play a review game.
Day 9: Chapter Test
I do not require students to take notes, though it is highly suggested. I cover a lot of material in lecture and the tests are comprised of 50% book material and 50% lecture material.
This general outline is for a test dealing with only one chapter. If multiple chapters are contained on a test then this outline will be expanded to encompass those lecture and lab days pertaining to the chapters.
We will complete chapters 1 to 10 during the first semester.
