Grades are figured on a total point value. Students will receive grades on the following items with amount of earned points over total points possible. To get the percentage grade simply divide the two.

TESTS

Tests are given on a unit basis. Most tests are worth 100 points and will finish out a unit. Tests will need to be made up as soon as an absent student returns to class. They will find the make up tests in the make up folder. The student will only have ONE WEEK to make up a test. Ms. Vidic will remind the student , if he or she does not make it up they will then receive a zero.

QUIZZES

Quizzes are given on a weekly basis. Most are announced at least 2 days in advance but on occassion they are unannounced to make sure students are keeping up on their skill level. Quizzes are put in make up folder for absent students also and students have the same amount of days missed to make them up, if not done they will receive a zero.

HOMEWORK

Homework is given about 3 times a week. Sometimes more and less depending on the unit we are working on. HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE. If students do not have homework during class it will be marked as a zero. If a student does not understand the assignment, they need to come in before school at 6:45am for help or attempt it and ask questions at the beginning of class when prompted.

MATH LAB

Math lab will be visited a couple times a week. During this 15 minute session students need to be accountable for their effort. Therefore a grade will be taken at the end of the session and marked in my grade book. (10 pts total). Other days in the lab students will have the opportunity to earn DOTS. These can be very beneficial to your child at the end of a semester. ( see DOT page)

CONCEPT MAPS

Concept maps will also be constructed at the end of a unit or section. Concept mapping shows me that the students can correlate the terms and ideas and how they affect each other. Concept maps will be done in partners and turned in on the assigned date. If a student is absent he or she will have to do the map on their own.

ACTIVITIES

Mathscape incorporates a lot of activities within their lessons. These activities are sometimes completed in class and some at home. Most of the activities have some written response to the activity. Students must complete activity in order to get full credit.

MS VIDIC DOES NOT OFFER EXTRA CREDIT INSTEAD SHE OFFERS DOTS!!!!!
EACH STUDENT MUST EARN 30 DOTS IN HER CLASS PER TRIMESTER. ANY AMOUNT OVER 30 WILL BE COUNTED AS EXTRA CREDIT.

HOW DO I EARN DOTS???

THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM FOR A STUDENT TO EARN ALL THE DOTS AND MORE FOR SOME EXTRA POINTS. DO NOT WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE TO GET YOUR DOTS ACCUMULATE THEM ALL TRIMESTER. IF YOU DON'T GET 30 IT WILL HURT YOUR GRADE. 30 CAN BE DONE WITH MATHLAB ALONE IF YOU WORK WISELY IN THE LAB.

I UNDERSTAND ALL THE ABOVE CRITERIA AND KNOW THAT GRADING WILL OCCUR IN THIS FASHION IN MS. VIDIC'S CLASS.
